Mailloux decided to renounce himself from the draft that year, saying he hadn't earned, and didn't deserve, the privilege of being selected after secretly photographing an 18-year-old woman engaged in an explicit sexual act with him while he was 17 and playing in Sweden in 2020 and then sharing the picture and her identity with his SK Lejon teammates. Mailloux was charged with defamation and offensive photography in Sweden and was fined about $2,000.
The now 20 year old Mailloux has been remorseful and has shown that he is a changed person from the incident. He has had meetings with therapists and taken part in education programs.
Mailoux had a standout performance at the Canadiens' development camp with his size, skating, skill and shot. The Canadiens didn't make Mailloux available to the media because he still hasn't had a meeting with the NHL about his eligibility to play in the league.
General Manager Kent Hughes revealed that he team still haven't received a response from the NHL regarding Commissioner Gary Bettman's meeting with Logan Mailloux.
There's no doubt that scouts around the league believe Mailloux has the talent to succeed in the NHL one day. In his draft year Bob Mackenzie of TSN had him ranked 35th overall in his final draft rankings. It is the character issues that the young defenceman will always have to fight against.
