Veteran winger Corey Perry officially signed with the Edmonton Oilers yesterday, nearly two months after getting dismissed from the Chicago Blackhawks for unacceptable conduct.
Insiders revealed that once Perry was given the green light to resume his NHL career, multiple teams were trying to entice the one-time Stanley Cup winner to join.
Hockey insider Frank Seravalli revealed that Perry was close to returning to the sunshine state, a place he is very familiar with after playing with Tampa Bay for two seasons. It wouldn't have been with the Lightning but their cross town rival Florida Panthers.
The Panthers roster is chalked full of players that have a similar style to Perry. Matthew Tkachuk, Sam Bennett, Nick Cousins all tow the line of physicality and pull antics to try and get the opponent off their game.
In the end Perry decided to link up with the best player in the world Connor McDavid on a surging Oilers team who have won won 13 games in a row. Since firing coach Jay Woodcroft and replacing him with Kris Knoblauch, Edmonton have went on a 23-6 run.
