Insider reveals just how much William Nylander is asking for from the Toronto Maple Leafs
The Toronto Maple Leafs have two upcoming restricted free agents that they're looking to get new deals done. Both Auston Matthews and William Nylander are entering the final years of the current contracts and need new deals. While it's been reported that Auston Matthews is willing to take a discount to help the team, that doesn't appear to be the case for William Nylander.
Multiple insiders have reported that negotiations aren't going well between the two parties, but now NHL Insider Chris Johnston has revealed why. According to Johnston at the NHL Draft Brad Treliving met with Lewis Gross, Nylander's agent, and both parties are on different pages.
Chris Johnston on the CJ Show says it's not going well between the Leafs and William Nylander, they just see the world differently.
Nylander believes he should be a $10 million player or just a little above that on his next contract, whereas the Leafs have come at him with a number in the $8 million range.
It's clear Nylander values himself very highly, but asking for a contract north of what Matthew Tkachuk makes is a hilarious request. It will be interesting to see how the Maple Leafs handle this situation, but it seems like it's only a matter of time before the Maple Leafs look for a trade partner for Nylander.
