Insiders leaks update on John Klingberg and his future in Toronto
The Toronto Maple Leafs have a reputation for using and abusing long-term injured reserve. The Maple Leafs were first team to use off season LTIR and have been operating in that model every since. The Leafs currently sit with over $10,000,000 in LTIR and it appears that number is about to climb.
In October Maple Leafs defender John Klingberg re-aggravated a nagging hip injury. The defender attempted to play through the injury. However, a long flight to Sweden has seemed to have derailed his season. Klingberg has not played sense and was placed on long-term injured reserve last week.
Today on the 32 Thoughts Podcast insider Elliotte Friedman leaked some information about Klingberg and his potential return.
Toronto is definitely looking for D. The search for D is on. I heard 'right hand shot', I heard preference is for an edgier, more physical player. Klingberg, there should be clarity this week. We're expecting him to be out for the year.
This revelation would create $4,150,000 in salary cap space for the Maple Leafs, which would allow them to go big game hunting on the trade market. If Klingberg's season is over it creates a major need for the Leafs who are also without Timothy Liljegren and Mark Giordano.
