Matt Murray was dealt to the Toronto Maple Leafs for a 2024 7th-round pick and future considerations from the Ottawa Senators during free agency.

Murray had a disappointing tenure in the Senators' organization, after being dealt there in 2020.

He was 15-25-3 with a 3.23 goals-against average, .899 save percentage and three shutouts in 47 games (45 starts) during two seasons with the Senators.

Sharing the net with Anton Forsberg, who ended up outplaying the veteran, 2 time Stanley Cup-winning goalie has seen better years.

Murray was excited about being moved to Toronto and with the Maple Leafs being his favorite team as a kid, I'm sure it helps that He's also been a part of the Soo Greyhounds organization, as Dubas seems to love players from there.

Murray's familiarity with coaching staff such as Jon Elkin may end up being a net benefit. The Leafs are in win-now mode, unlike the Senators who are in the process of rebuilding. This trade could revitalize the veteran's stat line and confidence.

Murray also battled injuries in his time with Ottawa, so there's hope he comes into the season healthy and excited to play.

Dubas has put a ton of faith in Murray and it Ottawa retaining a portion of salary certainly helps with the Leafs cap situation, it's not what many fans hoped for. Murray is definitely not Jack Campbell or Freddie Anderson, he will have a lot to prove this season.
