We all know former NHLer Jeremy Roenick is never at a loss for words. The Chicago Blackhawks/Arizona Coyotes legend gave his opinion on the Philadelphia Flyers decision to end Keith Yandle's ironman streak last night.
The Philadelphia Flyers' GM, Chuck Fletcher and Head coach Mike Yeo made the decision that Keith Yandle was going to be made a healthy scratch last night versus the Toronto Maple Leafs. In his place they were giving a young prospect that spot to see what the Flyers have in the cupboards for next year. However, Keith Yandle had a 989 consecutive game streak going on and understandably was pretty proud of it to, and to have it end like this was clearly bothersome.
After many others have shared their support for Keith Yandle, Jeremy Roenick shared his opinion on the topic:
I never thought I'd be this disappointed in the Philadelphia Flyers, one of my favorite teams ever. Scratching Yandle is beyond disrespectful and sends the wrong message of loyalty to the players and fans of the NHL!
Roenick would also take shots at Flyers head coach Mike Yeo:
The team is not making playoffs what's the message here!? Mike Yeo, you should be ashamed yourself, What Keith has accomplished is truly remarkable, and to take that away from him like this?
Roenick also believes this decision is going to hurt the Philadelphia Flyer. Especially when it comes to landing free agents.
No NHL players will want to sign with the Flyers in free agency following such a decision, especially not if the aforementioned Mike Yeo is behind the bench.
What free agent would ever wanna play for Mike Yeo now? The team is trying to rebuild and you pull a move like this truly unbelievable! Im very disappointed to be a Flyers fan right now!
Thoughg Jeremy Roenick is no longer a member of the NHL ESPN/TNT broadcast, due to some of Roenick's decisions he's made in the past. People in the hockey world still respect Roenick as one of the best players from the 90s. Roenick does very much still have a voice in the hockey.
