One of the most storied voices in National Hockey League history will call it a career at the end of the 2021-22 season. That of course, is longtime Buffalo Sabres great, Rick Jeanneret. For 51 years, Rick has been the voice of the Sabres, through the highest highest and the lowest lows, his voice has echoed through radios, TV's and right into the heart of every Buffalo fan throughout he's touched along the way.
It's only fitting, that on Friday, RJ's name was raised to the rafters of the KeyBank centre, where his legacy will never be forgotten and he takes his rightful place among Buffalo legends . April 1st, 2022 will go down in Sabres history.
In a season, that's had its ups and downs, the Sabres faithful came out in droves to send the voice of Buffalo hockey off the right way. A sold out crowd only got louder as Jeanneret stood on the ice he's called home for more than 5 decades.
During his speech at centre ice, RJ had this to say
The noise you and all the others have created is like my lullaby. I find it very soothing, So, how do I acknowledge the hundreds of thousands of people who've gone through the doors of the Aud and here at KeyBank Center? How do I acknowledge the now it must be millions who've been listening and watching over the last 51 years?
The answer to that question was a simple
We love you too RJ. Thank you for the memories. True story tellers are hard to find in the booth calling the game of hockey. RJ was one of the best.
