John Tortorella comes to the defense of his players before the team even hits the ice
The Philadelphia Flyers started the off-season and everyone thought they were about to make some of the biggest splashes, whether that be through free agency or via the trade market. Instead, let's call it what it was, lackluster at best. Which, is underwhelming considering General Manager, Chuck Fletcher proclaimed the summer was the start of a resurgence in Philly.
Instead, you have an archaic head coach in John Tortorella, who signed a 4 year deal to start the off-season, traded for a person who has been openly racist in the past because (checks notes) he's decent offensively, and let go of a player who recently battled a cancer diagnosis.
Now, your head coach, who is stuck in 2004, is defending your prized acquisition and noted racist Tony DeAngelo according to Jordan Hall of NBC Sports.
Torts, I'm going to put this very simply for you. People are allowed to be mad, they're allowed to criticize, they're allowed to feel a certain type of way because of the direction the team they cheer for is going in. You don't get to tell them they shouldn't say those things.
Considering you've always taken pride on your morals and «stuck to your guns» as it were, where are they now? I expected more from a person of «conviction» such as yourself. So, which version are we gonna see? 2004 Lightning? Or 2013 Vancouver? Whichever one it is, it's high time you learn your place. The game has passed you by. Enjoy early retirement, you're not making it all 4 years in Philly.
