John Tortorella healthy scratches the teams top scorer and gives awful explanation why
John Tortorella was hired by Chuck Fletcher for a culture change in the Philadelphia Flyers. His coaching style is very old-school and predicated on playing a "200-foot" game.
Kevin Hayes was benched at the beginning of the season, along with Travis Konecny after a disappointing couple of periods. Tortorella's style will spare none from discipline.
Today Tortorella announced he was healthy scratching the teams top scorer.
Torts: "I can't keep looking by things because we're worried about scoring."
Tortorella is all about discipline, and scoring isn't a focal point apparently, as Kevin Hayes is the Flyers leading scorer, with 29 points in 31 games.
It's arguable that benching Hayes is the wrong move, considering he moved Hayes to the wing, in an effort to control variables for Hayes whose known for defensive lapses. Tortorella may sacrifice scoring capabilities by benching the winger, but it just goes to show how dedicated he is to instilling two-way play as a non-negotiable.
