When the Philadelphia Flyers hired John Tortorella as their new head coach to kick off the off-season, they knew they were getting a no nonsense, brash Stanley cup winner who tells it like it is and sometimes takes things too far. Did they envision this kind of talk about his own team though?
According to Giana Han, Flyers beat reporter for Inquirer.com, Torts is back to his old ways, something no one should be surprised about.
Torts never seems to change, this latest sound bite is no different. Saying he'll be spoon feeding' adults information is quite a take, especially for someone who was just hired. Doubling down on that is astounding, but not unexpected.
Athletes these days have the attention span of an amoeba
On one hand, you hired him, what did you expect? On the other hand, I feel like his schtick is getting old. If you asked him, he'd probably they and pass this off a motivation, however, talking down to grown men historically has never gone over well.
Has the game passed Torts by? The question has to be asked. If this type of motivation doesn't work anymore, will he be able to switch tactics? I'm not convinced.
However, he's won a Stanley cup and and just some random on the internet, it's seems as though the game has passed him by though. Only time will tell. Until then, buckle up and enjoy the entertainment.
