Jonathan Huberdeau makes a pledge to help make hockey safer for everyone
Concussions and long-term head injuries have been a very controversial topic in hockey. While fans and players alike enjoy the hitting aspect of the game, there has been a push to make the game significantly safer for players. The NHL has begun to focus on targeted hits to the head, but there is still room for improvements.
One of the key elements is the scientific research. Jonathan Huberdeau has made it official and has pledged to donate his brain to science after he passes away.
Ben Lovejoy was the first NHLer to make this pledge to back in 2017. With footage of their careers and logs of injuries players have sustained, science will be able to take a look at the damage sustained. As more and more players continue to make this pledge we will hopefully find ways to make equipment and the game we love safer for everyone involved.
