The entire past season we heard rumblings that Johnny Gaudreau was going to sign with the Philadelphia Flyers in the off-season. Fans were already getting their Flyers Gaudreau jerseys ready in June. But then free-agency opened and the Flyers had one major problem, they had literally no cap space to sign anyone. Fans were initially shocked when Gaudreau signed with the Columbus Blue Jackets. But for Flyers fans, that shock quickly turned to anger when they found out Chuck Fletcher didn't even send Gaudreau a contract offer.
This off-season has turned into a revolt against General Manager Chuck Fletcher because of his terrible asset management. As it stand the Flyers are projected to start the season $2.5 million over the salary cap, so they still need to shed salary. Fletcher has been attempting to trade James Van Riemsdyk and his $7 million cap hit for 2 years now to no avail. Managing the cap and trading players is literally duty number 1 and 2 for a General Manager. So its easy to see why fans are upset.
Johnny Gaudreau was participating in a charity game at the Philadelphia Flyers practice facility this past weekend. One Flyers fan brought a homemade sign that said "Fire Chuck Fletcher" and Gaudreau was more than happy to sign it for him.
Seems like Gaudreau is still a little salty after this summer. Good thing he gets to play the Flyers 4 times this year.
