Ken Holland reportedly nearing a trade for a goaltender
For the Edmonton Oilers, goaltending has been a common issue throughout recent memory. Yes, they did make it to the Western Conference finals this year, but you can only ride the wave that is 41 year old Mike Smith for so long. Now they're in the market for a new goalie.
According to Arthur Staple of The Athletic the Oilers are heavily pursuing Alex Georgiev of the New York Rangers presumably to be their new number one goaltender. The only hang up right now is the Rangers want a blue chip prospect and Edmonton doesn't want to give that up.
Georgiev had a rough season last year, there is no denying that, but over his limited NHL tenure he's proven to be a reliable number 2 when called upon.
Maybe a change of scenery is all he needs to find his form again. The asking price from the rangers may be too rich for the oilers blood though. Only time will tell, Ken Holland has a history of making bad decisions when he feels his team is In need
