The Chicago Blackhawks have had a rough season no doubt. But even with how tough it's been, tonight's game was likely a new low.
The Chicago Blackhawks looked like they were on their way to a commanding win after taking a 4-0 lead against the Buffalo Sabres in the 2nd period.
But after Seth Jones scored to make it 4-0, Viktor Olofsson would score 2 goals to make it a two goal game, betire Kyle Okposo would get the Sabres within 1 goal game heading into the 3rd period.
Vinnie Hinostroza would complete the comeback tying it 4-4, before Alex Dabrincat scored a power play goal. Alex Tuch would tie it with 2 mins left in the 3rd to make things 5-5.
The Sabres would then score a flukey powerplay goal, off the stick of Tage Thompson with 10.6 seconds left. It occured after a shot attempt broke Thompson's stick, the puck then went off the boards and took a wild bounce towards the Blackhawks' crease.
The puck would hit off Blackhawks goaltender Kevin Lankinen's skate before going into the net for the winner,
this angered Lankinen, who destroyed his stick against the post in frustration.
After the game Thompson talked about his winning goal that he didn't even see it.
I was already halfway to the bench. I turned around and saw them chasing me down saying I scored. I had no clue.
Thompson would also comment on the spirit of the Sabres:
There's no one in there who has a me-first mentality. You see one guy jump over the boards and go hard. You want to follow that up with another good shift.
