Key Flyers forward shut down for the remainder of the season
It's been a tough season for the Philadelphia Flyers, who are currently dead last in the Metropolitan Division, holding a record of 15-23-8 on the season. Unfortunately, the struggling franchise was the recipient of some more bad news on Friday.
Per the team, center Sean Couturier has effectively been shut down for the remainder of the 2021-22 season after undergoing a surgical procedure on his back on Friday. Couturier has been sidelined with the injury since December 30th.
The 29-year-old former Selke Trophy winner has appeared in just 29 games for the Flyers this season, notching 6 goals and adding 11 assists for a total of 17 points over that span.
Couturier was listed as one of the team's four "untouchable" players last month by GM Chuck Fletcher. It will be interesting to see what happens with the Flyers this summer. Will they go the scorched earth route? Or will they simply make a few moves to try to change the culture in Philly?
