Kyle Dubas interested in leaving the Toronto Maple Leafs?
Early last month news was released that over the summer the Toronto Maple Leafs opted to not offer Kyle Dubas a contract extension. The brass at Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment decided it was worth the risk to give Dubas an extension. This short sighted thinking may have created another issue for the franchise though.
When news broke that Dubas could be available multiple insiders shared that they'd been contacted by other teams sharing how interested they'd be in Dubas. Now it seems that interest may have trickled to Kyle Dubas. According to both Chris Johnston and Frank Seravalli, there is now a very real possibility that Dubas may choose to leave Toronto.
Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment has allowed Dubas to enter the final year of his deal without an extension has other teams salivating and has to at least leave Dubas wondering.
For a team like the Maple Leafs this season is absolutely crucial, especially with Auston Matthews being available to sign an extension next summer. If Dubas walks it could lead to a bidding war for his services and it could create just enough doubt in Matthews mind that he'd be unwilling to put pen to paper.
The Maple Leafs situation is certainly one to monitor extremely closely.
