League announces the perfect suspension for Donald Brashear
Yesterday video surfaced of former NHL Enforcer Donald Brashear taking part in a fight, in a Quebec Senior League game. The fight left his opponent leaking blood all over the ice and in clear distress. The fight allegedly began after a slur was used and directed towards Brashear.
Today the league made the official announcement of Brashear's suspension. After review of all available information the league opted to issue Brashear a 3 game suspension.
The league issued the following statement.
Saguenay, January 24, 2023-The Disciplinary Committee of the Lac au Fleuve Senior Hockey League met on January 23, in the evening, to study the event that occurred during the game between the Blackjacks from Wendake and Les Chalets Flamand from St-Ambroise on January 21st.
To make its decision, the committee took care to consult the report of the officials, consult the two teams and to consult the video currently circulating on the social networks and the media. Following the discussions, the committee came to these
Situation #1
Punches inflicted directly on the head of player #12 of the Chalets Flamand of St-Ambroise: the committee imposes on #87 of Wendake, Donald Brashear, a suspension of 2 games for having been the aggressor and having caused injuries;
Situation #2
Back punch directly to the head of player #10 of the Chalets Flamand of St-Ambroise: the committee imposes on #87 of Wendake, Donald Brashear, a suspension of one game for aggressor without causing injury;
Situation #3
Objects thrown by spectators on the ice rink: the committee imposes a warning on the organization of the Chalets Flamand de St-Ambroise.
Situation #4
The committee also studied a complaint from the Wendake organization concerning a punch that would have been given by the #12 of the Flamand Chalets of St-Ambroise, Charles Duchesne, directly at the head of the #87 of Wendake, Donald Brashear. Following discussions with the various stakeholders, the committee decided to impose a partial suspension on #12 of Chalets Flamand de St-Ambroise, Charles Duchesne.
The Disciplinary Committee is very concerned about the safety of players playing in the league. The league's mission is to allow players who have completed their minor hockey to continue playing in a competitive high-level league, but in a safe manner.
It's very clear that the people who run the Lac au Fleuve Senior Hockey League should take over as the leaders of NHL Player Safety, because this sort of suspension is really what the NHL needs. If the NHL took a similar approach the league would be filled with far fewer rats.
