Marc-Andre Fleury's name has been floated about in trade talks since the early realization that Chicago would not be good this year. But despite the team's struggles, Fleury's reputation of a being superstar goalie could provide a valuable trade chip for the Blackhawks, if Fleury will waive his no move clause. Earlier today, Fleury's agent provided a status update on a potential trade.
On last night's edition of 32 thoughts during Hockey Night in Canada, Elliotte Friedman reported the following on the prospect of Fleury waiving his NMC and being traded.
Fleury has a 10-team no-trade list, but that is irrelevant. I don't think who is on his list and who is not on his list is going to matter here. I think it's going to come down to this, whether it's Colorado, whether it's Toronto, whether it's anyone like that: if Marc-Andre Fleury feels he has a chance to win and the team can make a deal with the Blackhawks, I think it's purely going to be that decision. Does he feel he has a chance to win, wherever he goes?
Given the timing of Walsh's statement following Friedman's report, it seems Walsh is confirming the report that Fleury will move to a team he believes can win, and that is willing to pay the price to acquire him.
