The New Jersey Devils were hoping to win their season opener, as they are in the midst of a rebuild. With Jesper Bratt having a multi-point night against the Philadelphia Flyers and multiple teammates contributing, including Alexander Holtz, the Devils lost on Thursday.

Needless to say, Miles Wood isn't a fan of the current direction of losing games and he let the media have it.

Wood apologized and clarified his anger at the fact they lost to a Flyers team, who could at the end of the season be one of the worst on the ice. The comments surely could've ruffled the feather of the front office, as Lindy Ruff managed to retain his job, despite two lackluster seasons recently.

Ruff's tenure with the Devils has been filled with poor play and even worse luck. This past season saw the Devils surrender more than 300 goals for the first time since the 1988-89 season, while also using a franchise record of seven different goalies and navigating numerous injuries and illnesses throughout.

With one year remaining on his contract and losing his assistants, will Fitzgerald decide to move on if this year isn't successful?

Wood albeit an RFA this offseason, will no doubt be extended, as someone on the team who puts up meaningful points, even as someone who isn't a 20-goal scorer.

His best season came in 2017-2018, when he posted career-highs in games (76), goals (19), assists (13), and points (32). During his last healthy campaign in 2020-2021, Wood went for 17 goals, eight assists and 25 points over 55 contests.

If Wood's comments did hit a nerve, I doubt it's the fanbase who wants to see the team become a contender.
