On Sunday night, that Toronto Maple Leafs lost 4-3 in overtime to the Anaheim Ducks. The loss to the 32nd placed Ducks set a new low point for the Maple Leafs during what has been a tough stretch to begin the season. One moment that notably caught the attention of some fans happened in the 3rd period after a television timeout.

After two brutal turnovers by Mitch Marner ended up in the back of the Maple Leafs net, head coach Sheldon Keefe had seen enough. Keefe pulled Marner off the top line and benched him for a shift. During a TV timeout Keefe let the team have it, specifically pointing at Marner during his tirade.

A couple minutes later Marner marched down the tunnel and destroyed his stick. Not after he made the mistake, but after he'd lost his spot on the top line. It was simply put, a temper tantrum.

After the game Marner tried to explain his actions, here's what he had to say.

Sometimes you gotta take some frustration out, and that's how you do it. I'm a passionate player out there... I put a lot on my shoulders, put a lot of pressure on myself, and I wasn't happy with that second turnover especially.

But if Marner was so upset about the turnover why did it take him almost 8 minutes to let out his frustration? Why not smash his stick on the play like most players would? Because Marner wasn't upset about that, he was upset about losing his place alongside Auston Matthews.

The Leafs are in trouble and it's becoming more clear every day.
