Montreal Canadiens hang their goalie out to dry, giving fans Patrick Roy vibes all over
The Montreal Canadiens have become victims of Alexander Ovechkin's record hunt, as they lost 9 to 2 last night to the Washington Capitals. In the midst of their rebuilding season, Martin St. Louis made a questionable call.
That was leaving Jake Allen in the net for 9 goals against, similar to a story we've heard before.
During the game, Martin St. Louis left Allen hung out to dry as the Canadiens' defense left him vulnerable for an Ovechkin hat trick as well, letting in 9 total.
In the last two games, the Habs have been outscored 16-4, and in a similar fashion lost to the Florida Panthers 7 to 2 as well. The only difference between Allen and Patrick Roy at this point is that Allen was neither benched nor did he confront Geoff Molson and ask for a trade that night, compared to Roy's firecracker antics back in the '90s and you do have to wonder, where is Allen's sense of self-preservation on the ice, if he can't count on his teammates to back him up on the blue line?
Jake Allen hasn't won a game since December 12th against the Calgary Flames, it looks like the back half of the season will be the worst for the Habs from here on out.
