Multiple Bruins defensemen undergo significant surgeries, will miss serious time
The list of Boston Bruins going under the knife continues to grow. After announcing last week that Superstar Agitator Brad Marchand underwent hip surgery and will be out six months.
Hockey Insider Frank Seravalli reported that three of their defenceman had surgeries on Friday.
Their top defenceman Charlie MacAvoy who led the team's blue line with 56 points in 78 games, underwent a left shoulder arthroscopic procedure. His expected recovery time is six months.
Matt Grzelcyk underwent right should surgery. His expected recovery time is five months.
Mike Reilly underwent a right ankle tendon repair. His expected recovery time is three months.
All three defencemen participated in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, where the Bruins lost in seven games to the Carolina Hurricanes. Grzelcyk missed Games 6 and 7, and it was announced he would need surgery after the series finished.
This all compounds with the uncertain future of Captain Patrice Bergeron. Its going to be a tough first few months of the season for the Bruins to overcome next year with all of these injuries.
