Referee suspended for the entire season after intentionally tripping a teenager
A Russian referee has been suspended for the enterity of the 2022/23 season after injuring a teenager during a game Sunday. The player, 17, has suffered a suspected concussion after referee, Alexander Cherenkov purposely tripped him. The trip knocked the teenager, who had lost his helmet, to the ice where his head struck.
The incident occurred as players were involved in a scrum during the 3rd period, as the referee attempted to cool things down by separating players. While pulling the teen aside, you can see the referee puts his leg behind the players in order to take him down. The take down happens around the 17 second mark of the video.
