NHL Department of Player Safety announces hilarious punishment for Leon Draisaitl
Last night in a game against the New York Islanders Leon Draisaitl attempted to make an impression on his new coach. Draisaitl posted a 4 point night, his best night of the young season. However, it was the actions of Draisaitl later in the game that got fans talking.
While Bo Horvat stood with his back to Draisaitl, Draisaitl made the decision to deliver a cross check to the back of the legs of Horvat. The play was extremely unnecessary and clearly an attempt to cause an injury.
Today the NHL Department of Player Safety made the decision to issue Leon a simple fine for his actions.
Edmonton's Leon Draisaitl has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for a dangerous trip on NY Islanders' Bo Horvat.
This is the sort of non-hockey play the league needs to look at removing from the game.
