We all know the NHL salary cap is a tricky situation to naviagte for many teams, especially for those close to the salary cap ceiling. A perfect example is the case of the Las Vegas Golden Knights who are almost over the salary cap limits and struggling to be compliant as players become healthy.

Hockey Insider, Frank Seravalli shared on the Daily Faceoff Podcast that there is an idea that will be discussed during the next NHL General Manager Meeting. The idea being out forward is the instituting of the salary cap for the playoffs as well.

The proposed idea would be put in place with the idea that the lineup iced by every team. This would help even the playing field and would force every lineup to fit under the $81,500,000 cap limit.

This idea comes after backlash from fans and teams after they believed the Tampa Bay Lightning used a salary cap exploit to have an advantage during their second Stanley Cup run. The Lightning were $18,000,000 over the cap when they won the Cup.

Carolina Hurricanes' Dougie Hamilton and Montreal Canadiens' Brendan Gallagher criticized the Lightning to which Tampa Bay Lightning's Nikita Kucherov made a t-shirt with $18,000,000 million over the cap posted on it. If this suggestion comes into place hopefully it will make it so teams can't have a competitive advantage over others.
