NHL announces that the salary cap is finally going up
NHL General Managers around the league have been told that the salary cap is increasing by $1 million next season. According to TSN Hockey Insider, Pierre LeBrun, the Cap will go to $82.5 million next season.
This will be music to a lot of GMs' ears around the league. They have been working under the stagnated $81.5 million the past two seasons. This is in part to the COVID-19 pandemic that caused less league revenue.
Last December Commissioner Gary Bettman announced that league revenues are expected to exceed $5 billion this season.
Before the COVID shutdown the league had expected the salary cap to have increased to $84,500,000 for the 2021-2022 season.
