NHL issues an embarrassing statement in Daryl Katz underage sex scandal
Yesterday allegations became public of Edmonton Oilers Owner, Daryl Katz involvement in a sex scandal involving a then 17-year-old female. The allegations claim that Katz paid up to $75,000 in exchange for sex with the minor. The allegations also included proof of a text message exchange between both parties.
As expected the NHL addressed the situation today by releasing a statement on the matter, but in typical NHL fashion the statement does nothing to address the complaint.
We became aware this week of the civil lawsuit in which Katz is named as a third parly by the delendants in the lawsuit. Katz has advised us that he categorically denies the allegations. We are in the process of looking into the matter.
The NHL's statement does very little to address the situation or do anything to help the image of the league. In a situation like this the league could simply suspend Katz pending an investigation. This would go a long way to try and help rehabilitate the image of the league.
