Nathan MacKinnon has given the Colorado Avalanche a deadline to sign his new contract
Nathan MacKinnon has been eligible to sign an extension with the Colorado Avalanche since July 13th. Rumors leaked that MacKinnon was looking to become the highest paid player in the NHL. It appears that is still the case, but apparently MacKinnon has also set a deadline for his new contract.
At the beginning of the season event in Las Vegas, MacKinnon provided the following information:
Nathan MacKinnon says his contract extension talks are close and will be done soon and won't be single digits. He hopes it to be done by opening night or he'd prefer not to talk during season.
Joked he doesn't like the label of being most underpaid player in NHL.
More and more players are falling into the trend of not wanting to be distracted by contract negotiations during the season, so it is imperative the Avalanche use the next three weeks to get MacKinnon to put pen to paper.
During media availability when asked about if MacKinnon would be the highest paid player in the league, his agent Pat Brisson replied with a smirk:
