New Western Conference team emerges as potential trade destination for Jakob Chychrun
As the 2022 NHL regular season is getting ready to start, the Jacob Chychrun rumors are starting once again. Pretty much all year last year Chychrun was rumored to be traded with multiple teams inquiring about him. However, a deal was never made. Now the St. Louis Blues are rumored to be interested in Chychrun. In order for a trade to happen, St Louis would have to move money out via trade with someone else or the Coyotes would have to take a player under contract from St Louis. Arizona has been willing to take contracts of players before. However the franchise's main objective has been stockpiling draft picks and prospects as they're in the introductory stages of a full rebuild.
One major benefit of adding Chychrun is that his salary per season is at a very reasonable $4.6 million per season. To acquire a player of his caliber at a low cost has to have the Blues attention. The question here is what is it going to cost St Louis to acquire Chychrun? Reports mention that a very good prospect and a first round pick is what Arizona is looking for.
Chychrun has been a solid defender for a subpar Coyotes team. The first round pick from 2016 had his best season two years ago when he had eighteen goals and twenty three assists during the 2020-2021 season. Imagine what Chychrun could do when he is surrounded by a roster of better players.
