When the New York Rangers drafted Alexis Lafreniere 1st overall in 2020 he was touted as the next generational talent after having a stellar junior career in the QMJHL just has never been able to live up to the hype surrounding him coming out of Junior. Now it looks like the Rangers are getting ready to trade him if need be.
According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman on the 32 Thoughts Podcast, time is running out for Alexis Lafreniere is running out with the Rangers; take a look.
Friedman on 32TP talking new Lafreniere deal: Everybody is kind of in a position where they're saying, look, we're going to try this under a new coach, see where it goes if it's not good next summer then I think you can move him at a number that I think teams can handle
Lafreniere, 21, is coming off of his best season in the National Hockey League, playing in 81 games for the Rangers last season collecting 39 points including 16 goals and 23 assists.
The fact is: Lafreniere hasn't been able to produce in the NHL the way that everyone thought he would and now the Rangers are in a position where they've signed him to a team friendly deal that east to move should things not get better under a new coach.
We'll see how things pan out, but all signs are pointing to the New York Rangers getting rid of Lafreniere before long.
