One year removed from a Western Conference Finals appearance, and still touting one of the best offences in the league, Oilers' GM Ken Holland is left scratching his head at this year's trade deadline. Despite a wide open path to the finals on a team that employs Connor McDavid, Holland doesn't feel like adding is the right move.

When asked yesterday about the Oilers' trade deadline plans and any potential acquisitions, Holland relayed that the team wouldn't do anything but wait for Evander Kane to come back from the injured reserve.

The Oilers are known for the electric offence, led by the undisputed best player in the league in his prime. McDavid, along with Leon Draisaitl, will now enter their eight season with Edmonton wherein the Oilers have never once made a serious trade deadline acquisition. Many have accused Holland of wasting McDavid and Draisaitl's prime.

Of course, the team added Evander Kane last year amid his contract buyout and legal troubles, but he can't be viewed as an acquisition this year because there are other glaring holes on the Oilers' roster. For years, the Oilers have desperately needed defence and goaltending, but Holland hasn't been able to deliver.

Going into another playoffs, Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl will once again be tasked to drag a deeply flawed Oilers team as far as they can single handedly.
