For the first half of the year, he posted a goals against average of just under 4.00, a save percentage well below .900, and zero shutouts. He ended up with a nice regular season record of 21-9-4 but that doesn't tell the full story. Campbell finished the season with a 3.41 GAA, .888 save percentage and eventually lost the net to rookie goalie Stuart Skinner.
Heading into the 2023-2024 season Campbell will be on a short leash. If his play doesn't improve Allan Mitchell from The Athletic reports that the Oilers might explore alternative options to shore up their net.
General Manager will be in tough trying to find a trade partner for a struggling Campbell if things don't improve. He still has four years remaining with a cap hit of $5M.
Hopefully none of this will be necessary and Edmonton will get strong play from both Skinner and the veteran Campbell. Campbell showed in small glimpses last season how good he can be when on. He had a nine game winning streak from January to February and was pivotal in a Game 4 victory against the LA Kings in the playoffs.
Time will tell how things go for Edmonton and Campbell but one thing is certain there wont be too many more chances for the Michigan product.
