PK Subban and his agent coming to painful realization about his career
With training camps opening in three weeks, a Norris Trophy winning defenceman is still looking for a team. P.K. Subban has been a free agent since July 13th when his 8 year, $72 million contract he had signed with the Montreal Canadiens expired. Since signing that contract, Subban has been traded twice. First by the Canadiens to the Nashville Predators and then by the Predators to the New Jersey Devils.
The 47th pick in 2007 had 5 goals and 22 points last season while averaging 18:18 of ice time.
His agent Don Meehan said
"Teams have expressed interest but aren't in a position to sign now, as they've got other things in play"
The 33-year-old, has made over $80 million in his professional hockey career. He has other streams of income as well with sponsorships, and TV appearances. Money might not be the main factor here. He might be holding off for a contender, so he can capture the elusive Stanley Cup for the first time in his career.
Subban isn't a 22 minute first pair defender anymore. Times catches up to us all. With the way things have unfolded this summer, he's realizing his value around the league and that he's no longer a priority to teams in the NHL.
It had been rumored a couple weeks ago that Subban had received an offer from the San Jose Sharks, but it appears that hasn't come to fruition.
