Patrice Bergeron announces his retirement
Questions remained as to whether or not Patrice Bergeron would return for one more season in the NHL. After the Boston Bruins set the NHL record for the best season in the league's history, they lost in the first round to the Florida Panthers.
The heartbreaking loss left a sour taste in everyone's mouth and many felt Bergeron would return for one more season. However, today Bergeron confirmed that was not the case announcing his retirement through a heartfelt post on the Boston Bruins Twitter account.
For the last 20 years I have been able to live my dream every day. I have had the honor of playing in front of the best fans in the world wearing the Bruins uniform and representing my country at the highest levels of international play. I have given the game everything that I have physically and emotionally, and the game has given me back more than I could have ever imagined.
It is with a full heart and a lot of gratitude that today I am announcing my retirement as a professional hockey player.
Bergeron retires as a sure hall of famer and one of the best two-way players to ever play the game. Congratulations on your retirement!
