Player hilariously taunts the referee after scoring a huge goal
The Mahtomedi Zephyrs beat Warroad Warriors 6-5 in double overtime on Saturday afternoon, to win the class 1A Minnesota boys' high school state championship.
The Zephyrs trailed 5-3 midway through the third period, when goal, that would have made it 5-4, was disallowed due to goalie interference. From the video below it's hard to argue.
Mahtomedi didn't let the disallowed goal discourage them, they went back to work in the offensive zone. It wasn't long after that, they made the game 5-4 thanks to captain Charlie Drage. He used his celebration to make sure the referee saw the puck go in. Drage would score the game-tying goal a few minutes later too, making it a hat-trick on the day.
Mahtomedi's Jonny Grove scored on a rebound 4 minutes, 56 seconds into double overtime to give the Zephyrs their second state championship in four years
Drage came to the postgame press conference with a chipped front tooth, a result of Mahtomedi's postgame celebrations.
"You can replace teeth," Drage said, "You can't replace this moment."
It's the second straight title game loss for Warroad and the Warriors' only defeat of the season. It was also the first time Warroad has given up more than four goals this year.
