Quinton Byfield - Is 2022-2023 going to be his breakout year?
Quinton Byfield showed a lot of promise in his first 40 games in the NHL, in 2021-2022. Byfield would end up registering 11 points in his first 40 NHL games total. Byfield would work his way back from a conditioning stint with the Ontario Reign, after healing from an ankle injury.
Byfield's first NHL goal would come in September, against the New York Islanders and Semyon Varlamov.
The No. 2 pick in the 2020 NHL Draft has all the tools to be a No. 1 center: size, strength, speed and skill. Is a load to deal with when he is at top speed; he can go around opposing checkers or through them. His shot is also a dangerous weapon. Injuries have been a problem. He is a student of the game and is still learning the little things needed for NHL success.
This season will be time for Byfield to make the next step in the NHL and produce at a level expected for a 3rd line center.
He'll have to step it up in the face-off circle, where he produced a less than stellar 45.5% win percentage, which can be easily improved.
Byfield is far from replacing Kopitar as 1C, but he still has work to make his projected potential in the Kings organization.
