With the trade deadline a little over a month away, look for talks around the NHL to heat up. GM's will be searching for what fits for their teams and if a bit of re-tooling is in the cards.
According to TSN's Pierre LeBrun, the Montreal Canadiens and New York Rangers make the perfect match. Montreal is last in the NHL and could fill some of the 6th place Rangers' needs. New York is looking to load up at the deadline with the playoffs rapidly approaching, and Montreal is a seller who would like to stock up on draft picks and hopefully begin their next stage of a rebuild next season, of which the Rangers have no shortage of with 12 picks in the 2022 NHL entry draft.
New York have approximately 30 million in deadline cap space and a special connection to Montreal, through Jeff Gorton. Current Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations for the Canadiens, Gorton previously spent 6 seasons as General Manager of the Rangers from July 2015 to May of 2021 before being hired by the Canadiens in November.
The Trade Deadline is a little over a month away, taking place on March 21st; it looks like the Montreal Canadiens and New York Rangers are a match made in heaven. Only time will tell, but one thing is for sure, the NHL Trade Deadline can't come soon enough
