Ron Francis appears to be making desperate moves to improve immediately
The Seattle Kraken are the National Hockey League's newest team, and as such, as expected, they weren't very good during their inaugural campaign. After an odd strategy during the expansion draft left them way below the cap floor, the one thing they have going into free agency is space to make a huge splash. Their first try however, seems to have been a swing and a miss.
According to Chris Johnston of TSN, the Kraken were in on former Minnesota Wild forward, Kevin Fiala, who's rights were recently traded to the Los Angeles Kings where Fiala then signed a long term deal.
It seems the Kraken are having trouble fielding not only a competitive team, but also aren't being taken seriously on the trade front either. Seattle will now have to settle for when free agency opens, where historically, teams get gauged on term and dollar amount without much control.
Is this a case of a new team trying to find their footing, mismanagement or both? Seattle has recently been connected to Alex DeBrincat as well, but the real question is, if Seattle wanted to be good so soon, why didn't they draft a better team?
