Hockey is a fast-paced, hard-hitting and sometimes gruesome sport. The speed of the game, especially at the National Hockey League level which means more injuries are likely.
In a game between the New Jersey Devils and the Colorado Avalanche in Denver, Devils d-man Ryan Graves, who was making his return to Colorado, was cut by the skate of a falling Nathan Mackinnon in what looked to be bad. Still, it could have been a lot worse. The incident happened with about 9 minutes left in the 3rd period.
Graves was cut deeply along his chin; thankfully, the skate didn't catch him a little lower across his throat, or what was a scary incident could have turned tragic.
Here's the video:
Thankfully, it appears that Graves is no worse for wear. Hockey players and their scars, eh?
Graves, 26, has 6 goals and 22 assists for 28 points in 69 games for the Devils this season, his first in New Jersey.
