Last night in Laval, the Laval Rockets took on the Belleville Senators, in an AHL matchup. Unfortunately during the game an injury occured that left one player needing a stretcher to leave the ice.

During a net front battle, Montreal Canadiens' prospect, Xavier Simoneau, was struck by a stick in the head. The blow led to Simoneau collapsing on his way to the bench. Simoneau was unable to get off the ice under his own power and required medical intervention.

When team staff got to Simoneau he appeared to be unconscious. This created an immediate emergency for all personnel involved.

Simoneau was taken to the hospital, where the team has provided the following update.

The news is encouraging in the case of Xavier Simoneau. We are talking about an injury to the nose, but fortunately not to the eye. At least Joel Teasdale's stick wouldn't have hit him directly in the eye. The team is awaiting new information in his case.

Our thoughts are with Xavier as he begins his recovery.
