The NHL Department of Player Safety could have a busy Friday after last night's action. There is speculation that Brad Marchand could face a punishment after a slewfoot against Oliver Bjorkstand. Unlike the speculation that surrounds Marchand, it is now confirmed that Tampa Bay Lightning defender, Erik Cernak will receive some form of supplemental discipline.

The incident occurred with less than 2 minutes left in the 3rd period as Okposo attempted to bring the puck into the Lightning zone. Cernak lines Okposo up for what would be a legal hit, until Cernak's elbow raises slightly and strike Okposo, who has a history of head injuries, directly in the face.

After the hit Okposo left the game and did not return. This morning NHL Player Safety announced Cernak's hearing, which will ensure that Cernak misses at least 1 game after this hit.

Of all the plays reviewed by Player Safety, this play will be very interesting to see the result of. It doesn't appear Cernak sticks his elbow out intentionally, but there is certainly contact with the elbow to the head.
