The Maple Leafs low balled Jack Campbell and his agent isn't having it
The 2021-22 season was a tale of 2 Jack Campbell's of the Toronto Maple Leafs . For the first 3 months or so, he was an all-star Vezina Calibre goalie, to a goaltender plagued by a rib injury that brought his stats back down to earth during the latter part of the season.
This seemingly make his next contract a hard one to gauge. Which Campbell do you re-sign? And at what price? According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, the Leafs opened negotiation's with a 2.75 million initial offer, which Campbell turned down. The two sides seem to be farther apart in the dollar value department.
Campbell, 30, is coming off of his first full season as the Leafs starting netminder in which he posted a record of 31-9-6 with a .914 save percentage and a 2.64 goals against average.
I hope he gets re-signed in Toronto, but not if it doesn't make sense for the Leafs. I personally would only go to about 3.5-4 per if they have the cap room.
