Horrific news is coming out of Ottawa today, as a reporter of the Senators, who used to play in the NHL, has sadly passed away today at the age of 56.

In some very tragic news coming out of Ottawa today, a beloved reporter, who many also knew in the area as Simmer, has sadly died at the age of 56.

Shawn Simpson was a local Ottawa boy covering the Senators

Simpson was a local Ottawa boy who was born in Gloucester, Ontario, a small neighborhood in the eastern part of the city. Fans of the Senators loved listening to him on the radio, as he frequently spoke on TSN 1200, and also on social media X.

A former NHL and KHL general manager and professional scout, Simpson, was drafted in the 1986 NHL Draft's third round by the Washington Capitals but did not play in any NHL games.

In 1987, he played for Canada's national team in the World Junior Championship. A few months ago, he publicly shared that in his life, he struggled with demons. But at the moment, no cause for his loss is known.

From 1985 through 1989, he played four years in the Ontario Hockey League, and played for both the Soo Greyhounds and for the Oshawa Generals.

From 1988 through 1991, he played in the American Hockey League, wearing a jersey for the Baltimore Skipjacks.

We would like to take the time to extend our deepest sympathies to all of Shawn's family and friends, as we know that this is going to be a very hard time.

All of his listeners and followers out there are definitely praying for everyone affected right now.
