It took until the end of the off-season, but the Boston Bruins finally locked down Jeremy Swayman on a long-term deal after the team traded away his goatlending partner Linus Ullmark.
Unfortunately for Boston, he hasn't quite produced as expected in 2024/25, tallying a 3.03 GAA and an .895 save percentage, and with the team fighting hard in the Wild Card race in the Eastern Conference, there's a chance they miss the Stanley Cup Playoffs all together.
This has led to some speculation over the future of captain Brad Marchand and some other wild takes, with insider Jimmy Murphy offering perhaps the most intriguing of all, as he recently stated that he believes the team show now trade the 26-year old goaltender.
On paper, this would be a ridiculous idea, as the team wouldn't have an immediate answer as their No. 1 if this were to happen, but given the contract situation, there's a chance that this could help the team moving forward.
However, there's very little chance that this could happen, with the team's future up in the air, the stability in net will play a huge role for this franchise moving forward, with the votes on Murphy's social media poll somehow split on whether or not the team should make it happen.
Ultimately, it's easy to see why Bruins fans would be frustrated with this situation, as they gave Swayman the reigns as the No. 1 goaltender in the organization, so while they'll likely give him a chance to turn things around, if that hasn't happened in the next 18 months, we could then see them push for a move.
