The Winnipeg Jets ruined any chance of trading Blake Wheeler with one decision
The Winnipeg Jets have been entertaining calls on captain Blake Wheeler since the season ended. The Minnesota native, has two years left on his five year deal, with an AAV of 8.25 million.
Wheeler had 17 goals and 60 points in 65 games but was an ugly -15 in plus minus.
Hockey Insider Frank Seravalli reported teams have asked the Jets if they'd be willing to retain any salary on any potential Wheeler deal and Winnipeg declined. This has killed any trade momentum as a result.
Wheeler has complete control over his destination. He has a five-team list to which he'd accept a trade.
With so many potential factors against a Wheeler trade GM Kevin Cheveldayoff will probably have to look at other alternatives to shake up the roster or agree to retain cap if he's truly looking to get a deal done.
