Things get heated after Lucas Raymond catches Mat Barzal on the trolley tracks
The Detroit Red Wings are looking to take a significant step forward this year under Steve Yzerman. The team appears poised to develop a physical identify and to be a difficult team to play against on a nightly basis. The influx of young talent into the roster has also created a healthy competition for roster spots.
During today's game one of those young players did his best to make an impact, somewhere other than the score sheet. In the second period of tonight's game, sophomore Lucas Raymond, delivered a big hit to Mat Barzal. Barzal attempted to carry the puck through the neutral zone when the collision occurred.
After watching their best player receive a huge hit, the Islanders quickly reacted going after Raymond. The Red Wings were up to the challenge and responded in a way Auston Matthews wouldn't understand.
On the play the only penalty given out was a 2-minute minor for roughing to Oliver Wahlstrom. To add insult to injury, Raymond scored moments later at the conclusion of the powerplay.
