The Four Nations Face Off rosters brought with them plenty of drama and question marks, so much so that one player has now ruined his chances of a recall.
This past week, every nation revealed their rosters for the 2025 Four Nations Face Off Tournament, which will be the first international competition to feature full NHL talent in quite some time.
There was plenty of drama around the picks for both Team USA and Team Canada, with the snubs of Mackenzie Weegar, Evan Bouchard, Connor Bedard, Macklin Celebrini, Cole Caufield and Tage Thompson all very questionable.
Now, more drama has emerged courtesy of Elliotte Friedman, who has revealed a shocking story on the latest episode of the 32 Thoughts podcast.
"I heard there was one player that, when he was told he didn't make the team, reacted so negatively that the team decided they won't even bring them as an injury replacement if it gets to that. I was, like, wow. That's pretty serious stuff."
While the top NHL Insider didn't reveal a name or even a country, he did tell a story that one player was so disrespectful after being snubbed by their team, that the team has now confirmed that player will not even be considered as an injury replacement, despite being right on the fringe of the roster.
Friedman would continue that he's unclear exactly how the team felt disrespected and disappointed, but ultimately this could be a major checkmark against that player for years to come.
"Like, they were shocked at how, or, I don't know if shocked, they were disappointed at how negatively the player reacted," Friedman said. "That's a tough one for me. I don't know exactly what was said... I don't know if they considered it open disrespect or whatever it was, but I don't think I would cross that line."
Hopefully we can one day find out who this player was and how the interaction went down, but for now, one of the top players for one of these four (likely two) nations will not have the chance to represent his country.
