The Vancouver Canucks are trying to make sure they say in the basement of the western conference, to do this, it looks like a player, once thought of as a centre piece of the organization may be on his way out.

Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman states that there is a possibility that Canucks goaltender Thatcher Demko could be moved at this year's trade deadline. Demko was put on injured reserve back in early December. He has been back out on the ice but his progression has not gone any further. As of now, he is still on injured reserve.

With the way the Canucks season has gone, it's not surprising to hear all kinds of Vancouver players mentioned in in trade rumours. The possibility of Demko being traded is an interesting one. He has four years left on a contract that pays him five million per season which is fairly reasonable for a starting goaltender these days.

Demko would likely generate interest from multiple teams which could drive up his value, this could be good for the Canucks. There does not seem to be a lot of goalies mentioned in trade rumors this season making Demko's name intriguing. Demko is not a rental, so whatever team was interested in him would have to have him in their plans for the next four years.

The Canucks season has been disastrous and they should do whatever they can to move veteran players off their roster, get in some prospects and picks, and give themselves some much needed salary cap relief. With the way the Canucks have been managed this year, tanking for Bedard, if management can do it properly would be the best option.
