Toronto Maple Leafs beat the San Jose Sharks and celebrate special moment like they've won a playoff series
Last night the Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the San Jose Sharks 3-1 in Toronto. The game was closely contested until late in the 3rd period when Pierre Engvall scores the go ahead goal. With less than 2 minute left in the game and the Leafs leading 2-1 it appeared Mitch Marner's point stream of as going to come to an end.
Entering last night's game Marner had registered a point in 17 consecutive games. Marner's streak began in a game against the Sharks, so it appeared fitting it would end against those same pesky Sharks. With less than a minute left Marner's teammates scrambled to get him the puck with an empty net.
Marner was finally able to bury the puck to extend his streak to 18 games.
Marner's points in 18 consecutive games ties the franchise record and ties him with both Darryl Sittler (Jan. 26-Mar. 8, 1978) and Eddie Olczyk (Dec. 2, 1989-Jan. 8, 1990) for the longest point streak in Maple Leafs history.
After being named 1st star of the game Marner was greeted with a celebration in the locker room by his teammates. The entire team met Marner with a celebratory shower.
Questions are going to have to be asked sooner than later, is Marner the best player on the Maple Leafs roster?
