Now, according to lformer NHL player and Toronto Star contributor, Nick Kypreos, Michael Bunting may be playing himself out of the Leafs organization sooner rather than later.
Bunting, 27, has played in 34 games for the blue and white this season collecting 9 goals and 15 assists for a total of 24 points. He's coming off a season in which he put up 63 points total last year.
I don't often say this but on this one I have to agree with Kypreos a little bit, he's playing himself out of the 4 million per season bracket with his play. The thing that I struggle with on this one would be consistency, especially if he were to leave Toronto this summer.
This is Bunting's 4th NHL season and his line mates on a regular basis are Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner. If he does decide to leave in the off-season, he will have to go somewhere with players that can make him look really good. I would find it hard to believe without a superstar centre and another productive winger on his line, he'll put up the same kind of production, in fact, I would venture to say that it would be nearly impossible.
Will teams jump for the opportunity to pay Michael Bunting the way they did Zach Hyman? Or will Jack Campbell's situation in Edmonton scare off some teams?
